The island of Burano. |
Burano is a small island north of Venice in Italy. It is situated near Torcello at the northern end of the Venetian Lagoon, and is known for its small, brightly painted houses.
Burano is situated 7 kilometres from Venice, a 40-minute trip by Venetian motorboats, "vaporetti". The island is linked to Mazzorbo by a bridge. The current population of Burano is about 2,800. The colours of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development, if someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.

Some of attractions in Burano is the
Church of San Martino, with a leaning campanile and a painting by Giambattista Tiepolo, the
Oratorio di Santa Barbara and the
Museum and School of Lace making.
The only way to get around Burano is by foot.

How to get there:
From Venice, get on LN line vaporetti from Fondamente Nuove, north side of the town, near the hospital.
From Jesolo and from all the beaches on the adriatic north coast, get on the LN line vaporetti from Tre Porti or from Punta Sabbioni.
When you get off, turn left into the park, then right into the village.
Leave Burano:
Vaporetto's leave about
every 30 minutes in each direction. A worthy visit is to the nearby village of Torcello, only 5 minutes away by boat.
